Horse racing is not the sport that it used to be in the eyes of the mainstream, but between the dollars invested in the Triple Crown, the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Breeders Cup (the richest day in sports) and the daily wagering that goes on, it still remains a very viable and somewhat underappreciate.property. Still the sport needs to continue to find its way to grab space away from the gamblers, and a recent piece in the New York Times City section caught our eye. The piece, by John Gill, documented the work of Karakorum, which sells small stakes in horses to the average person. In this day of escalating sales of sports properties, the ability to buy in and get that type of return by a fan is rare, and made for a great way to show how the work is paying off in growin.the interest of the casual sports fan. Worth a read.
We are also going to look at some of Non-BCS bowls, and see ho.brands are leveraging these opportunities, to gain market share for their brands. One we found is the Dec. 28 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, which the host sponsor, Diamond Foods,.is using to highlight it's snack food brands both during the holida.season and as the beginning of the run-up to the Super Bowl (they will launch new commercial spots during the bowl broadcast on ESPN). A nice piece explaining the strategy appeared in Media Post recentlyTerry Lyons…the documentation as to why the Ivy League champion Harvard Crimson deserved t.be proclaimed number one in college football (and why there should be a playoff)…we are sure there will be a similar chart in hoops for Harvard, who already owns a win over Michigan…?
