The snow this weekend will bring many planned activities to a halt, but that doesn’t mean in Washington that some smart college and high school students, and the folks at Georgetown as well, can’t find a way to be a little entrepreneurial in making the best out of all the white stuff that will be falling.
First there are those Hoyas, who in their push to continue to find new and interesting ways to fill the sometimes cavernous Verizon Center cane up with a little to no cost promotion that could deliver some butts in distressed inventory for their upcoming home games against Providence and Creighton. Using the hashtag #onthechilltop, fans will be able to buy discounted tickets on a scale depending on how much snow falls in DC this weekend. If the forecasters hit their mark, tickets for the two games will be half off. Nice buzz generator at no promotional cost, and it gets John Thompson’s program a few more fans for some upcoming BIG EAST matchups.
Then there are the organized snowball battles between schools, between campuses, and between rivals of every kind. Using Facebook and other forms of social media, groups like The Washington Snowball League and the DC Snowball Fight Association have planned a series of calls to action to get organized groups to show up once the snow stops falling to show some school pride. Georgetown students in dark blue, GW students in blue and buff, American students in blue and red, all can assemble at locations like DuPont Circle for some fun and a little bit of a heated rivalry. There is also the Snowgasm Snowball Fight to be held at the University of Maryland College Park’s McKeldin Mall with juniors and seniors wearing red and defending the south campus side of the mall and freshmen and sophomores in black and defending the north campus side.
There is even a Star Wars themed fight in Dupont Circle, called “SNOW WARS: The Snowball strikes up” planned with full Star Wars regalia.
All good clean fun with a bit of competition which should light up the social channels when the snow stops falling in The Nation’s Capitol.
