PR Move of the Day…Actually a really good branding move by the Dodgers, written about by Tom Hoffrath in the LA Times this week…the Dodgers are taking on a float in the Tournament of Roses Parade…may sound a bit hokey but those parades, like Macy's yesterday, get the brand off the sports pages and into the mainstream and liv.well beyond those watching…seems like the Dodgers, adding Joe Torre, bringing in Dennis Mannion from the Ravens to run their strategic side, are making a strong move to regain a national foothold, a place that the Braves are vacating a bit as they go off WTBS nationally.
Taking Advantage of Turkey Day:Joey Goldstein always went after to get exposure were the slow days around the holidays…day before and after Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve etc…when there was space to be filled (now even more with .com sites) and not a lot of news…hence a chance for some great human interest…unfortunately it seems like more papers are leaning towards th.much easier “Thankful” awards or “Turkey” awards ideas, but we found some great human interest pieces across the board…on the NBA side, SI.com's great hoops columnist Ian Thomsen did a piece on the Pistons Tayshaun Prince and his great efforts to work with kids and bring them to a game this week…then there was another strong story in Thursday's New York Times by Jere Longman on the University of New Orleans coach Joe Pasternackpost-Katrina…the MMA site MMAweekly.com also had a nice piece on the organization ProElite and their efforts to get fighters to give back across the country, and lastly a great piece in the Miami Herald on hot dog entrepreneur and sports fan Ronnie Arbetter and how he uses sports to fight through Pancreatic cancer.
All great pieces and all examples of how to promote positive stories, which media are looking for, during the holiday season. Great work by all
