A few recent trips in the car listening to XM Sports has produced some great interview spots above the usual host chatter…James Carville's show, as well as the Saturday morning show hosted by the Diamondbacks Eric Byrnes, have shown a willingness to take different guests away from the usual topics and expose listeners to more than what is available on traditional sports radio.MLB Home Plate, had very little to do with baseball and touched on a variety of topics, including the Mavericks Surfing Competiton in Hal.Moon Bay, California. Ironically, Sunday's New York Times also offered up a great piece by Paul McHugh on the unusual renegade and highly dangerous event. Now it is obviously a sport that is far from the mainstream, both in coverage and distance, but the involvement of Laird Hamilton in the recent series of American Express commercials, and the attempt by Van's to sponsor and monetize the Triple Crown of Surfin.?John Feinstein has a great profile of University of St. Louis coach Rick Majerus in this past Sunday's Washington Post. Feinstein, like few others, can take the readers inside the mind and habits of his subject, and he captures the affable Majerus with a great look into why coaches coach.
