Doodle Devils: The New Jersey Devils have done a great job with fan engagement, especially in the digital space for the past year. The team’s performance in the past few months has also raised the interest in the team as the NHL playoffs approach, so the team has launched another campaign to activate with and reward their fans. They have teamed with New Doodle.ly to give fans the chance to to design a Doodle that will go on 17,000 “Red Alert Playoff Rally Towels” for the opening night of the Playoffs. The winning design will also win a free pair of Devils Season Tickets for the 2012-13 season. The program is simple and gives everyone the chance to be recognized by their hometown team in a big time way. All the drawings are listed on the Doodle.ly site and are updated daily, so anyone can see what the competition looks like. It is not a computer generated program that can be done only by the tech savvy. Rather it rewards the hand drawn creativity, combined with the technical ability to upload. While every team does a rally towel for the playoffs, usually sponsored, the Devils have found a way to give back and make a little more of a difference with a program that can have lots of fun for fans.
D-Backs Protect and Share: There are probably few more beautiful spring training facilities than the Salt River Complex at Talking Stick, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies. Built with tribal support, the facility is intimate with the latest amenities for fans out to enjoy the spring training atmosphere. However one of the nicest, and simplest touches are the free sun screen dispensers located around the ball park. They are sponsored by a health care partner and are constantly filled to make sure that fans are aware of the dangers of the sun and may sit there and bake because they either forgot to reapply or didn’t bring any protection. It probably doesn’t cost the team a dime in sales, people still buy hats and all other pieces of clothing to cover up and the team could certainly sell lots of branded sunscreen in the desert, but the fact that they give it away and actively promote healthy skin care is a nice little thing that one of the best brands in sports does for their fans. Smart, simple and effective and sends all the right messages from the team to its loyal fans.
