We have seen so much activity from teams and leagues and athletes regarding getting out the vote for the coming election, and the messages continue to grow as we head toward November. On October 1, the Brooklyn Nets even took to the streets, literally, with a double decker bus encouraging people to both register for the census and register to vote, all of which continue to be positive signs.
We also noticed how the ridesharing services, Lyft, and Uber, have stepped up their efforts in getting people to vote, offering discounted, and in some cases, free rideshares on Election Day.
So we had this thought of combining efforts…have teams, many of whom have idle sponsorships with ridesharing companies since there are no events in arenas…work with Lyft and Uber to provide an even wider swath of free rides to polling places, especially for their season subscribers and partner company employees. In addition to drawing buzz, and maybe even increasing branding with custom cars, the free rides to polling places would be a nice brand extension for a partner probably idle until fans return in larger numbers to the stands. The partnership would also eliminate a critical step in the reticence to get to polling places even for an older demo and helps extend a key community relations initiative being pushed by many teams and leagues. Who knows maybe there can even be little special thank you’s offered by engaged players and coaches and ownership for those who take advantage of the program.
In a time where there has been a great deal of talk about voting, action is what will be needed and measured, and marrying team partnerships with the biggest names in ridesharing makes a great amount of sense for all involved.
Great exposure, great cause, and an ROI…votes cast that is almost beyond measurement.
