The biggest ‘Ally’ in Women’s Sports. We welcomed program alum Stephanie Marciano, Head of Sports and Entertainment at Ally. Stephanie speaks to the success and frenzy of women’s sports and goes into her successful career to get to Ally. She lays out the investment the brand has made and the gauntlet laid down for others, as well as her views on everything from NIL to NASCAR. Stephanie also speaks about social media’s impact and how it helps Ally become more inclusive, while laying out the global market for Ally and the importance of investing in women’s sports around the world.
The Value of Diverse and Deep Storytelling. We were joined by Yussuf Khan, CEO and Founder of the Khanate Group and the media platform First and Pen. Yussuf speaks about his career, specifically, starting at ESPN and taking more of an entrepreneurial path later on, while never losing sight of the importance of learning sales after transitioning from a banking background. He explains about the need for telling stories of athletes and leaders of color through First and Pen, and explains the value proposition that HBCUs bring to the table.
Going With The Globies. Our third listen is with Bronwen O’Keefe, Head of Global Brand Marketing and Content at the Harlem Globetrotters. Bronwen walks through her unique path to get to the Harlem Globetrotters. Bronwen leads us through her career transition whish saw her start to enter the sports storytelling world at Nickelodeon and expanded it in her current role with the Globetrotter. She discusses Nickelodeon’s jump into sports developing content and engaging in sports partnerships with leagues to get more youth fan engagement, and the importance of the NFL doing this to get confidence high in the league. She breaks down the success of the brand of the Harlem Globetrotters and what it is like in moving the company into a full entertainment brand with such a rich history. Bronwen also gives us insight into her rich family history in entertainment, which includes her grandfather the legendary comedian Bob Elliot and her uncle the accomplished actor Chris Elliot. A fun and informative listen all around.
