TKO’s AI-Proof Bet Is on Display in Glendale

For cities looking to attract major sporting events, the competition is no longer simply about who has the biggest stadium, the newest arena or the most convenient airport.

It is about who can offer the most compelling reason for fans, athletes, media, sponsors and rights partners to show up together.

Glendale, Arizona made a pretty persuasive case this week.

At an announcement staged at State Farm Stadium, TKO Group Holdings brought together UFC, WWE, and PBR to unveil a seven-event, three-year partnership with the Arizona Sports & Events Alliance, alongside Legends Global, the management company and operational partner for Desert Diamond Arena and State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The partnership features NOCHE UFC at Desert Diamond Arena, the 2027 WWE Royal Rumble at State Farm Stadium, and the PBR World Finals in Glendale, along with additional TKO events to come, including Zuffa Boxing.

That is more than a busy calendar of thrilling collision sports. It is a demonstration of what happens when a city can negotiate with a vibrant sports and entertainment portfolio rather than a single league.

The live event business has become one of the clearest places to see the limits of artificial intelligence. AI can help create content, analyze fans, optimize marketing and make organizations more efficient. It cannot create the sound of a stadium filling, the anxiety before a fight, the roar when a wildly overmatched bull rider knocks down a 90-point ride or the shared memory of watching a Royal Rumble unfold with tens of thousands of other people.

TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro made the point recently on the company’s quarterly earnings call.

“Experiences show no sign of slowing down,” he said. “It’s a permanent way of the world. TKO, today, sits front and center with WWE, UFC, PBR and On Location. And we will continue to take those secular tailwinds and milk them for everything they are.”

Shapiro’s words a day before the press event in Glendale might as well have been the message at State Farm Stadium.
